Case studies
Opportunity
Kira, as the seller's exclusive consultant, has led the process of selling a solar photovoltaic portfolio with 6MW of installed power in Spain.
The Kira Way
We structured the operation through a rigorous process and due to the multidisciplinary nature of our team in both technical and financial aspects are able to provide support in each of the following phases: preparation of commercial documentation, analysis of offers, creation and management of the data room, project visits, Q&A during the due diligence phase, negotiation of the final sale agreements, etc.
Impact
The sellers were able to: (i) ensure the success of the operation and (ii) optimize the economic and legal conditions of the operation. More than 20 institutional, local and international investors participated in the process, which was executed, from its launch to the signing of the operation, in less than 10 weeks.
Opportunity
Most of the independent promoters of renewable energy projects are forced to sell their projects to a large utility company once the planning application phase of the project was completed. This was due to the lack of financial and technical capacity to continue on their own.
The Kira Way
We identify and consolidate a portfolio of independent projects with enough volume to capture the interest of capital markets (i.e: banks) and equipment manufacturers (i.e: manufacturers of wind turbines, manufacturers of photovoltaic panels) and thus be able to keep the initial developers within the project.
Impact
This approach has led us to create the largest independent producer of renewable energy in the Spanish market with more than 700 MW of wind power and more than 50 MW of solar power in operation. The company was sold in 2018 to the Canadian pension fund AIMCO for a company value of over 1.4 billion euros.
Opportunity
Offering an alternative and immediate source of liquidity to the landowner.
The Kira Way
Kira identified, through its strategic coalitions, the opportunity to acquire the income originated from the existing lease contracts between two utility-scale solar parks in Extremadura (Spain) and the owner of the land.
Impact
A pioneering investment opportunity (€1.2M investment) with a lower risk profile than other investment operations in the renewables sector.
Opportunity
Kira identified the opportunity to invest in a professionally managed solar park and to grow it by acquiring additional facilities.
The Kira way
Through an initial purchasing offer that secured equal conditions to all owners interested in selling, Kira acquired 0.2 MW. Once the due diligence of the project was completed, Kira was able to build-up its position in the solar park through two additional rounds of acquisitions.
Impact
0.8 MW of nominal power acquired and managed that yielded attractive returns.
Opportunity
To disrupt the market with a pioneering distributed photovoltaic solar energy project.
The Kira Way
We are advisors and investors in the project. We make our expertise available to the management team and contribute to the creation of the concept and development of the business plan.
Impact
Project in consultation phase with other investors to secure the first round of financing.
